OcuFlow Bedtime

OcuFlow Bedtime supports healthy Intraocular Pressure (IOP) regulation, and one capsule is taken within 30 minutes of going to bed.

The production of aqueous humor by the ciliary body in the eye provides nourishment to the front of the eye, also known as the anterior chamber.

The balance of inflow and outflow of this nourishing and cleansing fluid is what determines the eye pressure (IOP).

OcuFlow formulations are also designed to be neuroprotective, and to support maintenance of healthy retinal and optic nerve function as well as sustained peripheral vision.

Each phthalate-free enteric vegicap of OcuFlow Bedtime provides:

 Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) 30 mg 50%

Faulty glycosaminoglycan (GAG) synthesis or breakdown in the trabecular meshwork associated with aqueous outflow has also been implicated. Similar to patients with cataracts, those with glaucoma typically have compromised antioxidant defense systems as well. Nutrients that can impact GAGs such as vitamin C and glucosamine sulfate may hold promise for glaucoma treatment. Vitamin C in high doses has been found to lower IOP via its osmotic effect.  Magnesium (Magnesium Taurate) 4 mg 1%

Magnesium (Mg) is thought to be one of the molecules that has a treatment potential in glaucoma. Mg has been shown to improve blood flow by modifying endothelial function via endothelin-1 (ET-1) and endothelial nitric oxide (NO) pathways. Mg also exhibits neuroprotective role by blocking N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-related calcium influx and by inhibiting the release of glutamate, and hence protects the cell against oxidative stress and apoptosis. Both improvement in ocular blood flow and prevention of ganglion cell loss would make magnesium a good candidate for glaucoma management. Further studies on the effect of Mg may open a new therapeutic era in glaucoma. Source: The Role of Magnesium in the Pathogenesis and Treatment of Glaucoma

 Taurine (Magnesium Taurate) 46 mg

Taurine is known to prevent N-methyl-D-aspartic acid-induced excitotoxic injury to retinal ganglion cells. A recently published study clearly demonstrated that taurine prevents retinal neuronal apoptosis both in vivo and in vitro. Protective effect of taurine may be attributed to direct inhibition of apoptosis, an activation of brain derived neurotrophic factor-related neuroprotective mechanisms and reduction of retinal oxidative and nitrosative stresses.  NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) 20 mg *

NAC serves as a precursor of cysteine and stimulates the synthesis of glutathione in neural cells. Suppressing oxidative stress in the retina may be an effective therapeutic strategy for glaucoma, a chronic neurodegenerative disease of the retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and optic nerves....Our findings suggest a possibility that systemic administration of NAC may be available for some types of glaucoma patients.  Safranal 3% (Crocus sativus) 30 mg *

After three weeks of treatment [with 30 mg/day], IOP was significantly decreased to 10.9 ± 3.3 mmHg in the saffron group as compared to 13.5 ± 2.3 mmHg in the control group (p = 0.013). At four weeks, IOP was still significantly lower in the saffron group (10.6 ± 3.0 versus 13.8 ± 2.2 mmHg, p = 0.001). Melatonin 20 mg *

Melatonin and analogues decrease IOP in both normotensive and hypertensive eyes. Source: Melatonin and the control of intraocular pressure

Salvianolic Acid 20% (Salvia miltiorrhiza) 60 mg *

The present study employed Salvia miltiorrhiza extract feeding in a rat model of glaucoma to investigate the potential protective effects of this extract in glaucoma. The results demonstrated that the orally administered extract did not prevent the IOP from increasing, but did protect the RGCs from pressure-induced cell death. Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen) has been widely used in formulations and has demonstrated anti-ageing effects, as well as neuroprotection.  Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (Pinus pinaster) 60 mg *

The death of retinal ganglion cells is a hallmark of many optic neurodegenerative diseases such as glaucoma and retinopathy. Oxidative stress is one of the major reasons to cause the cell death. Oligomeric proanthocyanidin has many health beneficial effects including antioxidative and neuroprotective actions.... Our studies thus demonstrate that oligomeric proanthocyanidin can protect oxidative stress-injured retinal ganglion cells by inhibiting apoptotic process. Source: Oligomeric proanthocyanidin protects retinal ganglion cells against oxidative stress-induced apoptosis

 Anthocyanidins 25% (Vaccinium spp) 60 mg *

Anthocyanin (AC) is widely used as supplement of eye health in Europe and in East Asia.... AC passes through the blood-aqueous fluid barrier and blood-retinal barrier. In vitro study, AC had a relaxing effect on ciliary muscle which is important to treat both myopia and glaucoma.... In addition, we summarized clinical studies of AC intake improved...retinal blood circulation in normal tension glaucoma patients. Source: Therapeutic Effects of Anthocyanins for Vision and Eye Health

Baicalein (Scutellaria baicalensis) 30 mg *

Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) is a major risk factor for glaucoma that results from impeded fluid drainage. The increase in outflow resistance is caused by trabecular meshwork (TM) cell dysfunction and excessive extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition. Baicalein (Ba) is a natural flavonoid and has been shown to regulate cell contraction, fluid secretion, and ECM remodeling in various cell types, suggesting the potential significance of regulating outflow resistance and IOP. We demonstrated that Ba significantly lowered the IOP by about 5 mmHg in living mice. Consistent with that, Ba increased the outflow facility by up to 90% in enucleated mouse eyes. Source: Mechanistic Effects of Baicalein on Aqueous Humor Drainage and Intraocular Pressure

CBD (Cannabis sativa) 15 mg *

Cannabis' major non-psychoactive ingredient cannabidiol (CBD) have been used for the treatment of sleep disorders, pain, skin disorders, and lowering of intraocular pressure (IOP).... patients who received CBD did not show changes in IOP at any time...  Serrapeptase (Serratia spp.) 10,000 SPU/cap 25 mg *

Serrapeptase is included in this phthalate-free enterically encapsulated formulation for systemic enzyme therapy support, including for the trabecular meshwork and Schlemm's canal, the primary drainage channel for the aqueous humor of the eye.

Poke Root (Phytolacca americana) 10 mg *
