There are many other beneficial forms of magnesium. Each one provides some particular benefits. We include those that are well absorbed into the body in the Functional Formulation® Magnesium Syntropy. 

Magnesium Oxide is not well absorbed but carries water osmotically through the intestines. This supports peristalsis and colon cleansing. Magnesium L-Threonate:

L-Threonine is an amino acid helps transport magnesium across the blood-brain barrier. Magnesium Threonate increases brain magnesium levels.
A study in Neuron titled "Enhancement of Learning and Memory by Elevating Brain Magnesium" shows that magnesium L-threonate (MgT) efficiently elevates brain magnesium levels in rats. This enhances learning abilities, working memory, and both short- and long-term memory. It also improves pattern completion ability in aged animals. Functional changes include increasing synaptic density in the hippocampus. The study shows an excellent ability to cross the BBB is superior to other magnesium forms, supporting its role in cognitive enhancement.
A study in  Neuropharmacology titled Regulation of Structural and Functional Synapse Density by L-Threonate found that L-threonate directly increases intraneuronal magnesium concentration, which enhances synapse density—a key factor for cognitive ability. L-threonate increases brain intracellular magnesium levels, supporting synaptic plasticity.

Magnesium Acetyl Taurate:

Taurine is an amino acid that is well known as a remedy for heart and muscle health. Taurine increases intracellular magnesium levels, supported by multiple studies, including human trials. The addition of an acetyl group transports both the taurine and the magnesium across the blood-brain and blood-eye barriers.
There is strong evidence from both human and animal studies that taurine increases magnesium levels in cells, including red blood cells and heart cells.
